Statement from Dr Janet Roberts

I am Dr Janet ROBERTS and I am employed as a Police Surgeon and
on behalf of the Gwent Constabulary. I have 23 years experience as a Doctor and have been working on behalf of the Gwent Constabulary for about 9 years.

At about 3.30am on Saturday, 1st March, 1997, I received a phone
call at my hone from the Custody Unit at Newport Central Police
Station. I was informed that there had been a death at No. 8 Cormorant Way, Duffryn. I was requested to attend.

At 4.09am on the same date I attended at No. 8 Cormorant Way. On
my arrival I walked into the open door of the premises. On the floor behind the door at the base of the stairs I saw the body of a young, white male. The whole area around the body was covered in blood. In particular I remember a mat at the inside of the door. The mat was soaked and oozing with blood. This was so much so that I avoided stepping on this mat. I spoke to two ambulance men at this stage. They stated that on
