Statement from Dr Mandy Johnson

Dr. Mandy Louise JOHNSON am a part time General Practitioner and Police Surgeon for Gwent Constabulary. I hold the qualifications Bachelor of Medicine, Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners and Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynecologists. I have been a Police Surgeon for nearly 3 years.

On 1.3.97 at the request of the police I saw and examined Paul David PAGINTON, aged 23 years, date of birth 18.12.73 of 268 Old Barn Estate, Newport. The allegation was that he had committed a murder. The examination commenced at 0740 in the medical room of Newport Central Police Station. Although he gave written consent to the examination and collection of specimens he subsequently refused venesection (blood sampling). SOCO D. BANCROFT was present
throughout.

In the past medical history there was little of note apart from alopecia, for which it was felt stress was a contributory factor. He was on no medication or reported and allergies. His tetanus was in date. He had not received any emergency treatment prior to this
