Statement from John Whiteside
I am a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy. I have worked as a Forensic Scientist for over 27 years during which time I have attended numerous scenes of violent crime. This is an interim statement relating primarily to my visit to the scene. The examination of items which have been submitted to the laboratory has not been completed and will be reported in an additional statement. VISIT TO SCENE On the 1st March 1997 at the request of the Gwent Constabulary I visited a dwelling .Touse at 8 Cormorant Way, Newport. I was informed that earlier that day, the body of Matthew
THOMPSON had been found in the hallway of the house. It was believed that Mr THOMPSON had been involved in a fight with Paul PAGINTON.
