Statement from PC David Gallwey

I am Police Constable 328 David Stephen GALLWEY of the Gwent
Constabulary currently stationed at Pillgwenlly, Newport.

At 0325 hrs on Saturday the 1st of March 1997, I was on duty
accompanied by PC 708 DAVIES when I attended at 8 Cormorant Way, Duffryn, Newport.

Upon arrival I first noticed that there were a number of people
stood in and around the front doorway to the house (the door being
open). I could see that someone was lying on the floor just inside the entrance, but I could only see the bottom half of their legs as my view was obstructed by the door itself.

I also a large quantity of what appeared to be blood on the
interior doormat and also around the door area. There were also what appeared to be bloody footprints outside the entrance and in the hallway of the house. PC 708 DAVIES went into the hallway to check whoever was on the
