Statement from Sgt. Jeffery Newton
I am a Police Sergeant in the Gwent Constabulary, presently At 3.28 am on Saturday 1st March 1997, I was on duty in uniform, On arrival, I saw that all the lights were on in the house and I entered the house, through the front door and immediately saw In the house were the persons I now know to be the witnesses,
stationed at the Central Police Station, Newport.
in company with PC 432 ROBBINS, when as the result of a radio message, I went to no. 8 Cormorant Way, Duffryn, Newport.
that the front door was open.
the body of the person I now know to be Matthew John THOMPSON, lying on his back in the hallway. The body and hallway was covered in blood.
