Statement from Terrance John
I am a Police Officer in the Gwent Constabulary currently attached to the Scenes of Crime Dept. at Newport Central Police Station. At 5.45am on Saturday the 1st of March 1997 together with PC526 EVANS, I attended at 8 Cormorant Way, Newport where I conferred with Detective Inspector CURRIE. I entered the premises with DI CURRIE. The body of the deceased, who I now know to be Matthew John The front door mat and the back of the front door was heavily bloodstained. There was blood or. the floor and walls of the hallway.
THOMPSON was lying in the hallway, behind the front door, at the bottom of the stairs, in a pool of blood.
